With financing and regulatory approvals in place, construction is slated to begin on the fifth train of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project in Cameron Parish, LA, Cheniere Energy Partners LP said (see Daily GPI, June 29). The project is to have up to six liquefaction trains, each with capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum. Train 5 is expected to enter operation as early as 2018. “We now have five liquefaction trains under construction at Sabine Pass, with Train 1 expected to make first LNG later this year,” said CEO Charif Souki. “We expect to reach [final investment decision] on Train 6 at Sabine Pass upon completion of commercial contracts and arranging financing, as all necessary regulatory approvals have been received.”

Enbridge Inc. has acquired a 5% equity position in Fairwood Peninsula Energy Corp., owner of Delfin LNG LLC, and has struck an agreement to assist in developing offshore liquefied natural gas facilities in the Gulf of Mexico, Fairwood said. Delfin is developing the first floating liquefaction project in the United States (see Daily GPI, May 11).
