Industry has already achieved more than half of the cleanup sought for the most potent greenhouse gas (GHG) from oil and gas fields, according to a report by the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) that prompted the government’s optimism.

“By focusing on tangible results, Alberta is reducing methane in our atmosphere while increasing natural gas production,” said Alberta Environment Minister Jason Nixon.

Alberta Energy Minister Sonya Savage said the results “show how seriously the sector takes emission reductions and how a combination of technology, innovation and collaboration will help.”
